Vacuum Science and Technology - NEVAC

https://techwatchbooks.nl/vacuum-nevac

New international edition of Dutch standard work ‘Basisboek Vacuümtechniek’

The book ‘Vacuum Science and Technology’ is a brand-new international edition of the Dutch standard work ‘Basisboek Vacuumtechniek’, first published in 2000 by the Dutch Vacuum Society NEVAC. This volume has since proven to be a real “bestseller” on vacuum physics and technology in the Dutch language region. In the new English edition, released by The High Tech Institute and Settels Savenije van Amelsvoort, The Netherlands, the main author Bert Suurmeijer, PhD with co-authors Theo Mulder, BSc and Jan Verhoeven, PhD have included all currently relevant knowledge for everybody who works in vacuum-based research, instrumentation, development, production or business.

An excellent reference work

The book ‘Vacuum Science and Technology’ may indeed be characterized as a new standard reference work covering the complete field of vacuum physics and technology. The setup is modern in the sense that literature references in the book text are missing. This is because the authors consider the internet nowadays as a useful, ever-renewing and expanding source of information. After all, tekst references are currently aging quite quickly (or: faster) and to the author’s opinion will moreover disturb the readability of the book to some extent. Important updates are added on vacuum pumps, pressure measurement, ion sources, gas spectrum analysis, leak detection and cleaning and working discipline. As such the book will be a valuable resource for researchers, engineers, maintenance staff and sales managers alike. Throughout the volume, both basic physics and present day technology receive ample attention.

A unique multi-purpose course manual

The book ‘Vacuum Science and Technology’ is not only an excellent reference work but also useful as a flexible text book with a unique graded structure. Text meant for high graduates is placed behind margin lines. Omitting this text gives a textbook for middle graduates. Both with and without the margin texts the volume shows the desired internal coherence for the associated training level. Exercises are included in two degrees of difficulty. The clear layout makes the book perfectly suitable for (combined) higher as well as secondary level training. The book is written by three Dutch specialists in vacuum physics and technology and former lecturers in this field. They all three are honorary members of the Dutch Vacuum Society NEVAC. Educators, students and course participants will experience the book as a balanced synthesis of ‘in-depth’ vacuum physics and modern practice.

Fortunes of High-Tech - A history of innovation at ASM International 1958 - 2008

https://techwatchbooks.nl/Fortunes

High-tech innovations have been propelling the Digital Revolution since the end of the Second World War. These advances were not self-evident, but actively pursued by many. A global playing field of entrepreneurs, engineers, scientists, investors, public officials, and consumers stimulated inventiveness for commercial, intellectual, social, and political reasons.
This book explores this dynamic of high-tech innovation by looking at the machinations behind the Digital Revolution. Literally. Technologies developed by the Dutch semiconductor equipment manufacturer ASM International culminated in the linchpin of the Digital Revolution – the computer chip.
Chaired by its illustrious founder and long-time chief executive officer Arthur del Prado, ASM International has been innovating and anticipating technologies across the globe since the early beginnings of the semiconductor industry in 1958. The story of ASM International is a history full of achievements, disappointments, defining innovations, strategic lessons, and strong personalities. It shows the fortunes of high-tech innovation.

Outsourcing Development and Life-Cycle Management

Outsourcing Development and Life-Cycle Management is a practical guide for OEMs and suppliers. Wim Steenbergen explains how to manage this complex relationship from the first development project right through to its full implementation. Steenbergen introduces the subjects and terminology relevant for this type of cooperation in a way that all involved disciplines will understand it, including product management, development, operations, service, sales, purchasing, and legal.

The book presents a step-by-step plan to implement and manage the cooperation, with many practical tools and real-life examples. This book’s in-depth, multidisciplinary approach makes it an ideal general management tool for innovation managers, especially those in the high-tech industry, who are considering outsourcing part of their development.

After a career at international companies like AT&T, Ericsson and Philips, Wim Steenbergen assisted suppliers in the high-tech region of Eindhoven for the last five years. He translated his experience in outsourcing development in the book Outsourcing Development and Life-Cycle Management.

2END EDITION AVAILABLE

Pre-order ASML’s Architects

How do you transform a hopeless research and business activity into a billion-dollar machine and a world-leading company? The Dutch enterprise ASML pulled it off, and the book ASML’s Architects by renowned technology writer René Raaijmakers reveals exactly how.

ASML's Architects travels back to the origins, struggles, success factors and sheer luck of a company that was barely alive at the beginning of the 80s, yet managed to become the uncontested world leader in chip lithography. Today, ASML determines the pace at which all information technology advances.

The book covers the technology and the business, but the real story is in the people behind them. Throughout its pages, the interviewed engineers, scientists and managers speak frankly about their struggles, their fights and the grueling teamwork behind the scenes.

The professional English translation of this book is a work in progress. Once we receive the first 400 orders, we will finish translating ASML's Architects from the Dutch original, De architecten van ASML. The English version is an extended and exclusive print edition, and contains more historical pictures and illustrations than the original book.

By ordering ASML's Architects in advance you receive a discount. You also help us to publish this English edition sooner. The first 600 buyers will also receive ASML's Architects two months before later buyers.
